West Indies’ miserable run of form in the longer format of the cricket game continued as they stumbled on to another loss. Bangladesh beat them by 64 runs in the first game of cricket. It was an exciting test match with both sides having a chance at some point or the other in the game but in the end, the more experienced side in these conditions won the cricket game.
West Indies will have to do something drastic to avoid a fourth consecutive loss at Mirpur, as their batsmen look woefully out of ideas on spinning tracks. Only Shimron Hetmyer looked like having some plans to counter the barrage of spin bowling options that Bangladesh unleashed on them. Hetmyer in the first game of cricket looked the most comfortable batsman from West Indies, as he scored 63 off just 47 deliveries in the first innings to give West Indies a chance. However, in the second innings, he played one attacking shot too many and, post his downfall, the loss was a mere formality.
Bangladesh would be mighty pleased that despite no significant contributions from the experienced trio of Shakib Al Hassan, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah, they managed to outscore West Indies in a test match. A young star like Mominul Haque ending up with a match-winning hundred will release a lot of pressure from the senior players. However, Shakib’s spin bowling still did the damage, especially his bowling with the new ball proved to be too much for West Indies’ top order.
In what will be the last test cricket series as a coach for Stuart Law in West Indies, he would like to influence another victory on these shores. He has led the development of many young players like Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer and the least these players can do is give him a fitting farewell.
Bangladesh will look to seal the series against West Indies when they take on each other at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur, Dhaka. Bangladesh lead the test cricket series by 1-0 courtesy of their win in the first test match at Chittagong by 64 runs.
West Indies will be without Shanon Gabriel in this test after he was banned due to an altercation in the previous cricket game. Our prediction is that will remain the only change for this game of cricket for them.
Here is our prediction of West Indies’ playing XI:
Bangladesh gave a fantastic performance in the first cricket game. Their playing eleven had all the bases covered for these conditions. Our prediction is they will go with the same playing eleven as their last game.
Here is our prediction of Bangladesh’s playing XI:
Imrul Kayes has been in good form in recent times. In the first cricket game, he failed to make an impact. However, our prediction is of a fine performance from him in this game of cricket.
Pitch at Mirpur is expected to be quite similar to one in the previous game of cricket. It should be good for batting for the first couple of days. However, it should start spinning square. Bangladesh pitches are known for an extreme turn and this will not be an exception either. Conditions are expected to be dry and cool.
Bangladesh will begin this test cricket game as favourites as well. They know their conditions well and have all the arsenal to conquer the West Indies line-up. For West Indies, one suspects that their best chance is if both Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer fire and score a big one. However, that seems unlikely and our prediction is of another Bangladesh victory.
Mushfiqur Rahim (Ban) – 50+ runs
Taijul Islam (Ban) – 2 or more wickets
Imrul Kayes (Ban)
