The BCCI's National Selection Committee has announced the Indian team for the sole historical Test match to be played at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore against Afghanistan. The team was announced at a meeting chaired by the selection committee chairman MSK Prasad. Team India's permanent captain Virat Kohli will not be available for this test match and in his absence, the selectors have given the command of the team to Ajinkya Rahane. 

Virat Kohli will play for Surrey county team in England during this period. The selectors have not fielded Rohit Sharma in the Test team. Fast bowler Mohammad Shami, who got involved in personal disputes, has been included in the team for this Test match. 

Afghanistan's cricket team will make a debut in Test cricket through this match. Last year, the ICC rated Ireland and Afghanistan as a Test match. Earlier there were reports that Afghanistan will play against their debut Test match against Australia. Giving priority to economic-social relations with India, the Afghan Cricket Board decided to play its national team debut Test match with India.
Ireland's national cricket team will also make Test debut against Pakistan in Dublin on May 11.
